Athlete Testimonials
“I've never thought of myself as a naturally athletic person. I've had asthma since I was little and didn't play sports in high school (I actually got cut from the high school softball team twice!). I started casually running in my early 20's, and eventually fell in love with marathons. I was never very fast. Before I started working with Emmy, I'd run 13 marathons and had a PR of 4:23. I've since run 2 marathons with Emmy as my coach, including a 3:36 marathon this weekend! I truly never thought a time like that was possible for me, and am feeling amazed by what my body can do.
I have two small children and a demanding job, so I don't have a lot of time to train. Emmy was great about listening to my priorities and constraints, and designed a personalized training plan to help best use the time I had to help me reach my goals. I'm so grateful for Emmy and all her support!”

“I’m just so happy how my mentality has completely changed, just from starting with coaching and having these races under my belt. I have such a better mindset going into races/workouts and even after races/workouts. I finally feel like everything is clicking and it feels good! I’m also learning so much from you and from all my races. I never really understood the importance of easy runs and different workouts in high school and college, so it feels so great to finally understand it, apply it, and see the results. After my last marathon I didn’t even think I would ever run a race again! I’m just so happy I’m back to enjoying the whole process again, even if I come up short on my goals. I’m also able to better reflect on what went wrong/well and truly see what I need to work on as well as what my strengths are. Thank you for all you do, I appreciate it so much!!And thank you again for helping me check off one of my bucket list items (BQ, 3:15 marathon) that has been on my list since high school!”

“My first marathon was 8 years ago in 2017. I ran a 4:33 then and now have improved to a 3:41 and achieved my first BQ after nine marathons! Working with Emmy really helped me dial in my training and go into the race feeling as prepared as possible. I felt like I could show up on race day and actually trust my training this time and it turns out that was true! I loved the energy, atmosphere, and beauty of Grandma’s Marathon and am so excited to finally achieve a goal I have had for many years! Thank you to Emmy for her guidance and encouragement! Especially on the course at mile 25.5 when she cheered for me by name and gave me the boost I needed to push through to the finish!”

“I cannot thank you enough. You’ve been there for me though all my aches, pains, and injuries! You were encouraging when I felt down, you knew I would do good even at times when I doubted myself and you never doubted me. I couldn’t have asked for a better coach and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me reach my goal!”

“I can’t believe this marks the third year. Your help and expertise has never steered me wrong and I am endlessly thankful for it… The first two years of doing this, I was an anxious mess for a least a week leading up to the race. The two days before I could barely function. This year? I felt fine. It almost freaked me out because I am an anxious person in general and I didn’t have a single knot in my stomach all week, not the night before, not even at the expo. I was sleeping plenty and eating well. I think I just felt so prepared.”

“Wow, what an incredible journey! Completing my first marathon was a dream come true, and I can’t believe I’ve crossed that finish line!
While the training was tough, it taught me so much about perseverance and pushing through challenges. I faced some rough days and even tough moments during the race, but crossing that finish line was a moment I’ll cherish forever. Without a race plan or training, I couldn’t have made it through (injuries are no fun!).
A huge thank you to everyone who supported me along this journey—especially my coach, Emmy, your encouragement kept me going during training and during the race!”
